The approach

A headshot has one job.

To look like you — not a smoothed-over, better-lit stranger — and to tell a casting director something true in the half-second they spend on it. Everything in the session works toward that.

01

Looks like you

The person who walks into the room is the person in the photo. Same age, same energy — no surprises for the casting director, or for you.

02

Honest range

Enough variation across the two hours that you leave with real options — a set, not a single safe frame you’re stuck with.

03

Reads in a glance

Casting moves quickly. A good headshot lands a clear, true impression immediately — the eyes, the expression, the read.

Selected work

Headshots that walk into
the room before you do.

Why actors work with Cam

An experienced eye for actor work.

Headshots are a specialism, not a sideline — and actors are a large part of the work.

Years with actors

A decade of headshots

Ten years photographing actors — from a first professional headshot to working actors refreshing a look between jobs.

Knows the industry

Fluent in casting

Familiar with Spotlight, agents and how casting actually reads a headshot. The brief is never a guessing game.

Specifically actors

Built for casting

Not a general portrait session adapted for actors — a session built around how casting actually reads a headshot.

How it feels

Calm & collaborative

An unhurried, conversational session. You don’t need to perform for the camera — that’s rather the point.

The session

Two unhurried hours.

A two-hour studio session at Belsize Park — enough time to settle in, work through a few looks, and find the frames that actually feel like you.

It’s a collaboration, and mostly a conversation. There’s clear direction when you want it and space when you don’t — and if the camera makes you self-conscious, you’ll be guided closely the whole way. Afterwards you review everything in a private gallery and choose your final images.

  • Two hours in the Belsize Park studio
  • Collaborative, conversational direction throughout
  • Several looks and wardrobe changes
  • Guided closely if you find the camera awkward
  • Private online gallery to choose your images
  • Three fully retouched final images, in around a week

Looks & wardrobe

Range, without the costume box.

You don’t need to act out characters. The variety comes from a few considered changes — a shift in layer, colour or expression that opens up a different read — while every frame still looks unmistakably like you.

Bring a handful of tops in plain, mid-tone colours, with a couple of layering options. The aim is a set that works across Spotlight, your agent’s site and casting profiles — not a folder of near-identical shots.

  • Plain, mid-tone tops — skip loud logos and busy patterns
  • A couple of layers for an easy change of read
  • Two or three distinct looks within the session
  • Necklines and colours that suit the roles you’re up for

Casting realism

The headshot has to
match the actor.

The least useful headshot is one that looks nothing like you in the room — over-retouched, over-lit, or a decade too young. It wins the meeting and loses it in the same breath.

So the work here stays honest. Skin is kept real, age is kept accurate, and the expression is one a casting director would recognise the second you walk in. The goal isn’t the most flattering photo — it’s the most useful one.

  • Natural, restrained retouching — you, on a good day
  • Age-accurate and true to how you actually present
  • Framed and sized for Spotlight and casting profiles

Good to know

Questions, answered.

What should I bring to wear?

A handful of plain tops in mid-tone colours, plus a couple of layers — jackets, knits, a shirt. Skip loud logos and busy patterns. Think necklines and colours that suit the roles you’re realistically up for, and we’ll choose together on the day.

How long is the session, and how many looks do I get?

Two hours in the studio — unhurried by design. That’s comfortable time for two or three distinct looks, with wardrobe and expression changes in between.

How many final images are included? Can I buy more?

Three fully retouched final images. Additional retouched images are £50 each, and you can add them any time after reviewing your gallery.

I find being photographed really awkward. Is that a problem?

Not at all — it’s how most actors feel walking in, working actors included. The session is calm and closely guided. You don’t need to know what to do in front of the camera; the direction handles that.

Will the photos work for Spotlight and my agent?

Yes. Final images are framed and sized for Spotlight, agents’ sites and casting profiles, and delivered ready to upload — no extra cropping or resizing needed.

Where is the studio?

Belsize Park, London NW3 — a few minutes from the Tube. Sessions are studio-based, with controlled, natural-looking light.

How soon do I get my images?

You’ll review every usable frame in a private online gallery shortly after the session. Once you’ve chosen, retouched final images are delivered in around a week.
